12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things freely given to us by God, 13 which things we also speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, combining spiritual thoughts with spiritual words. 14 But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised.
Sometimes I’m amazed at how some people just don’t get it. I have seen God revealing Himself to certain friends and family for years, and as clear as it is to me, it seems like things just never seem to click for them. They continue down the same dead end paths to happiness and fulfillment and seem surprised when they get to the end having not found them. Instead of looking for a better road, they simply choose another dead end. As many of you know, this can be incredible frustrating to watch.
This is the state of many of our friends and most of the world. We are all seeking the same solutions but because they refuse to accept “the things of the Spirit of God”, it is impossible for them to see what is right in front of their faces. Thankfully, as we know, there is hope! “For we also once were foolish ourselves, disobedient, deceived…but when the kindness of God…appeared, He saved us” (Titus 3-5). Just like for us, God, in His grace, is ready and waiting to reveal to them by the Spirit what they have been blind to. As those who have the Spirit, we can be praying for that moment of revelation and continue to share the hope and freedom that we have received from the Spirit.
May we live in an understanding way with those who cannot see in the hopes that one day they will.
