4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him. In love 5 He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will, 6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, which He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved.
I think we all remember times growing up when all the kids would line up against a wall, two kids would be chosen as captains, and they would begin to pick kids one by one who they wanted on their team. If you have ever been in one of those situations, you can attest to the fact that there is something very satisfying with being picked first or even second. There is a sense of acceptance and value that just naturally goes along with that experience. It is terrible to be picked last or worse yet if you’re not picked at all.
It is critical to remember that there is no part of this that originates with us. It is He who chose, He who loved, He who set our destiny, His Child who made us His children, inspired by His kindness, decided by His will, in order to show off His grace, demonstrated most perfectly in the ultimate sacrifice of His Son. We have our standing in Him because it was “bestowed” on us, the undeserving. I was rarely picked for sports teams because I had a lack of skill, yet God pick me for righteousness when I had a complete and utter lack of righteousness so that He would be glorified through me. What a blessing! What a God!
May we view our lives today as richly blessed by God because of He chose us!
